The MV Milford Wanderer

Helicopter flight from Manapouri to Preservation Inlet to board MV ‘Milford Wanderer’ (our home for the next six nights).    We cruise the inland waterways of Preservation Inlet, Doubtful, Breaksea and Dusky Sounds, Facile Harbour (Earshell Cove), Chalky Inlet, Pickersgill Harbour to Astronomer Point and Puysegur Point Lighthouse walk.  Cruise through Acheron passage to Anchor Island for a guided walk and also Pigeon Island to see Richard Henry’s (early conservationist) house site.  Walk South Beach and visit the town site of Crmarty.  Visit Tarawera Smelter, Cuttle Cove Whaling Station and the beaches of Spit Island.  DOC Nature Guide on board for shore excursions and evening talks.  After disembarking our cruise vessel at Deep Cove, Doubtful Sound, travel over New Zealand’s most expensive highway - the Wilmot Pass back to Manapouri to retrace our steps, by ferry and coach, to Queenstown (1 night). Then fly to Auckland.
