Day One
Day One

The first day of this tour is all about exploring the coast north of Tauranga.  After a comfort stop at Drury we turn off onto SH2, passing through Ngatea, Paeroa, the Karangahake Gorge and Waihi till we reach the Waihi Beach RSA for a tasty Buffet Lunch.  This afternoon we head south to Island View, Athenree, Pios Beach and then along the spit, right to the end, to the tiny settlement of Bowentown at the northern entrance to Tauranga Harbour.  Here, you feel you can reach out and almost touch Matakana Island.  We then follow the harbour around to the harbour-side village of Ongare Point.  Further south we’ll make Katikati our afternoon tea stop, before following the main highway through Bethlehem to Tauranga, our home for the next two nights, at the waterfront Trinity Wharf Hotel.

Day Two
Day Two

Day Two:  A free morning.  You may wish to stroll through the lovely harbour-side park that leads you in to the city centre.   At 11am we begin our Tauranga Harbour Cruise and the best thing about staying at Trinity Wharf is our cruise vessel Kewpie is able to pick us up from our hotel!  We begin by cruising past the city centre and then out to the busiest port in New Zealand where we see huge ships loading logs bound for China.  We cruise past Pilot Bay, Mt Maunganui and into the inner harbour passing Matakana, Rangiwhai and Motuhoa Islands.  We disembark at the Omokoroa Wharf for Lunch at the local café.  After lunch we re-board Kewpie following the secondary channel alongside Otumoetai, Matua and Sulphur Point Marina, returning us to our hotel at 3pm.

Day Three
Day Three

Day Three:  Where do you get the best coffee in Tauranga?.....The Scruffy Seagull of course! So we’ll visit Fiona before a short drive to Mt Maunganui where we’ll have time for a walk right around it, a stroll on the beach to see the old Marineland site or relax in a café, taking in the summer seaside atmosphere.  Late afternoon we make our way home via a lunch stop in Waihi.
