Duration 21 days 20 nights

This will be SHIP n SHORE’s third visit to Norway.  We and our fellow travellers enjoyed it so much in 2008 and 2013, we’re going back again!  Fiordside fishing villages nestled into sheltered coves, incredible mountain railways, avalanche shelters, snow-melt streams, waterfalls and wonderful dining – by ship and rail, with comprehensive sightseeing in Bergen and Oslo.  Norway is, quite simply, breathtaking!

Full details will be available shortly.     Please enquire with SHIP n SHORE to be placed on the list for your copy.

Draft Itinerary
Draft Itinerary

The detailed itinerary is still being developed, however here is a taste of the wonderful tour. Full details soon!

Norges Statsbahn (Norwegian State Railways) supremely comfortable trains take us from Oslo, past the country’s largest lake, through ski resorts and Lillehammer (94 Olympics), rising to a snowy 3,000’ before descending to Trondheim, Norway’s Viking capital.  Next day, on the “Polar Express” train we cross the Arctic Circle, and for over 9 hours travel alongside rivers, fiords and through spectacular scenery, to the northernmost point on the Norwegian rail system, Bodo.

Here, we board our modern passenger/cargo working ship, designed and built for the arctic environment.  All our cabins are ‘outside’ with large picture windows, private bathroom and daytime sitting area.

Threading our way between innumerable islands and navigating winding waterways, we cruise the whole length of the Norwegian coast, from the Russian Border (the old “Iron Curtain”) via North Cape (the northernmost point in Europe), to old-settled picturesque Bergen in the south.  En-route we call at no less than 30 ports, ranging from small fishing villages and coastal settlements to captivating towns like Tromso and Hammerfest.  At most stops we have the opportunity to go ashore.  An incredible rail, fiords-ferry, and mountain railway journey takes us between Bergen and the capital city of Oslo, via an overnight hotel stay in the tiny village of Flam.
