This will be SHIP n SHORE’s third visit to Norway.  We and our fellow travellers enjoyed it so much in 2008 and 2013, we’re going back again!  Fiordside fishing villages nestled into sheltered coves, incredible mountain railways, avalanche shelters, snow-melt streams, waterfalls and wonderful dining – by ship and rail, with comprehensive sightseeing in Bergen and Oslo.  Norway is, quite simply, breathtaking!

Brief Itinerary

Brief Itinerary:  During our first days in Norway we enjoy 1282km of Norges Statsbahn (Norwegian State Railways) supremely comfortable train travel from Oslo, past the country’s largest lake, through ski resorts and Lillehammer (‘94 Olympics), rising to a snowy 3,000’ before descending to Trondheim, Norway’s Viking capital.  Next day, on the “Polar Express” train, we cross the Arctic Circle and for over 9 hours travel alongside rivers, fiords and through spectacular scenery, to the northernmost point on the Norwegian rail system, Bodo.

Here, we board our modern Hurtigruten passenger/cargo working ship, our home for the next 9 Days, in Polar Outside cabins, with under-floor heated private bathrooms.  With berths for only 650, the ship is spacious with viewing lounges and large picture windows.  Designed and built for operating in the arctic, the ship is kept at a cosy temperature year round.  Threading our way between innumerable islands and navigating winding waterways, we cruise the whole length of the Norwegian coast, from the Russian Border (the old “Iron Curtain”) via North Cape (the northernmost point in Europe), to old-settled picturesque Bergen in the south.  En-route we call at no less than 30 ports, ranging from small fishing villages and coastal settlements to captivating towns like Tromso and Hammerfest.  At most stops we have the opportunity to go ashore.

As a Bonus we have an incredible rail, fiords-ferry, and mountain railway journey which takes us between Bergen and the capital city of Oslo, via an overnight hotel stay in the tiny village of Flam.

We fly Emirates A380 (upgrades to Business Class available) between Auckland and Oslo, via Dubai.  At tour end, there is the option to stay on in Europe to explore more of this part of the world or maybe visit rellies in England.

Includes Auckland door to door transport, airfares and taxes, rail and ferry fares, coach travel/transfers, porterage, Hurtigruten coastal cruise in Polar Outside cabin with private facilities, meals and sights as per the Detailed Itinerary.      Contact SHIP n SHORE Tours for your copy.
