Goldfields Railway, Self-Drive Railcart Adventure and Rotorua's Redwood Treetops Walk
We ran this in the last newsletter and will do it one more time to satisfy the waitlist of people who missed out. Featuring Goldfields Railway, rail carts, and a Rotorua Treetop Walk - we pack a whole lot of fun into 3 days!
We make our way to Waikino Railway Station for lunch before boarding our heritage Goldfields Train for an excursion to the town of Waihi, to our awaiting coach. We arrive at Whakatane’s White Island Rendezvous Motel late afternoon. Dinner is at the Whakatane Sportfishing Club.
Today is Railcarts Day - This three hour self-drive Railcart (Golf Cart on Rails) experience over 4 bridges through numerous cuttings with native bush also includes morning tea, a brilliant short bush walk, chicken feeding (so many!) and a sausage sizzle. Travel alongside lakes Rotoma, Rotoehu and Rotoiti to overnight at the Holiday Inn, Rotorua.
Redwoods Treewalk – Suspended high above the forest floor, encounter 75 metre tall giant redwoods as you walk across eco-suspended bridges and platforms. The walk begins with a spiral ramp to get you to the 9m level. If you don’t have a head for heights there is a lovely bush walk at ground level. We make a lunch stop at Tirau and a comfort/ice cream/Pokeno Bacon stop at Mercer on our way home.
