Here's a great little overnighter! Delicious Puhoi Cottage Devonshire Tea before a tour of the Waipu Scottish Migration Museum. Overnight at Ruakaka Beach. The main event is a 90-minute Cruise through the Marsden Cove Canal Homes and then out into Whangarei Harbour. Lunch at The Marina Cafe before returning home.
Tour Itinerary:
DAY 1: Puhoi Cottage Devonshire Tea and Waipu Scottish Migration Museum
We begin with a yummy Devonshire Tea at Puhoi Cottage before meeting our guide at the Waipu Scottish Migration Museum. Hear this fascinating settlement story and discover how thousands of Gaelic speaking emigrants from the Western Highlands of Scotland ended up in the virtual paradise of Waipu. Overnight at Ruakaka Beachfront Motel.
DAY 2: Marsden Cove Canal Homes Cruise
We have Breakfast at a local cafe, then board MV 'Waipapa' for a 90-minute Marsden Cove Canal Homes Cruise that takes us through this stunning waterway complex before going through the gap to Whangarei Harbour. We cruise alongside Port Northland observing large ship activities with views of the now defunct Marsden Point Oil Refinery. On the other side of the harbour we pass the settlements of Reotahi Bay, Taurikura Bay and Urquharts Bay, which are at the base of Mt Manaia, Mt Aubrey and Mt Lion. Back on terra firma Lunch is ready for us at The Marina Cafe. We arrive Auckland late afternoon.
